A University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point faculty member is helping people to achieve the reset they need to reconnect and rediscover their purpose.

Associate Professor Brian Krolczyk, who specializes in health sciences and wellness and business administration, traveled to Tuscany, Italy, in October 2024 to lead a five-day wellness retreat. Sponsored by the Conscious Workplace, a consulting firm based in London, this retreat aims to provide insights and skills that prevent burnout, improve morale, optimize well-being, and promote engagement and belonging.

The retreat was held at the Fattoria do Larniano Retreat Center.

Krolczyk’s extensive teaching experience and connections with wellness leaders drew the Conscious Workplace to him. He highlighted the retreat’s focus on personal renewal, noting the evolving dynamics of today’s workforce.

‘Workers today are looking to be appreciated, known, and developed while striking a healthy balance within their career and personal life,’ Krolczyk remarked.

His objective was to assist participants in rediscovering their purpose by building emotional resilience—the capacity to adapt to stress. ‘The retreat provided attendees with the opportunity to recalibrate emotionally by transforming past experiences into valuable insights and cultivating gratitude for the lessons they offer,’ said Krolczyk. He elaborated on the importance of channeling emotional challenges into constructive growth to empower participants.

Krolczyk also emphasized the significance of establishing relationships and identifying resources for additional support. Drawing from his personal experiences, he understands the imperative of knowing where to seek help during difficult times.

After encountering challenges during his undergraduate studies, including mental health and substance abuse struggles, Krolczyk returned to UW-Stevens Point, sought the necessary resources, and ultimately graduated. He furthered his education at West Virginia University, earning master’s and Ph.D. degrees in counseling psychology.

Today, he serves as a national board-certified executive health coach, directs the UWSP Health and Wellness Coaching Certificate program, and teaches neuroleadership in the UWSP Master of Business Administration program.

Krolczyk leading a session

Krolczyk led one-on-one sessions throughout the retreat.

Having experienced adversity, Krolczyk now advocates for a proactive approach to personal well-being. He described his journey: ‘I have now come full circle, having fostered substantial areas of my life to support students in the way I needed as a student.’

Krolczyk advises his students on the importance of pursuing career opportunities in health behavior change. ‘There is high demand for experts who know how to support others in health behavior change,’ he stated. ‘Be proactive and not reactive. Pay attention and look for these opportunities.’

His commitment to student success aims to foster a sense of belonging at UWSP. ‘I am honored to be part of a dedicated community at UWSP that collaborates tirelessly to support and inspire student success,’ he expressed. ‘Now is a good time to heal and to love. The present is the only place you can truly live, so fill it with gratitude.’
