Activities and Programs for August

The Beacon of Hope has scheduled a variety of activities and programs for the month of August. Here’s what you can expect:

Health Services

Samaritan Health and Wellness operates a primary care clinic every other Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Beacon. This clinic caters to the uninsured and underinsured, with a nominal fee of $50. Mental health services are also available. To make an appointment, call 239-360-7520.

Client Services

The Beacon’s Client Services are open on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Services include access to computers, fax machines, printers, and notary services. Case Managers are available to assist with various government programs and economic issues; appointments are recommended.

Transportation and Meals

Transportation to medical appointments within Lee County is available Monday to Friday. Please reserve your spot 48 hours in advance. Additionally, Beacon Bites (meals on wheels) are available for those in need.

Educational Opportunities

GED classes take place on Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., while ESOL classes are offered every Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m.

Health Screenings

Blood pressure screenings are available every Monday and Wednesday from 1-2 p.m.

Support Groups

The Veteran’s Support Group meets on the first Friday of each month from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For appointments, call 239-283-5123.

Community Engagement

The Fundraising Committee will convene on Monday, Sept. 16, to plan future activities. Interested individuals are encouraged to join.

Musical Experience

Join us for a unique musical experience called Strange Arrangement on Monday from 6-7:30 p.m.

Scouting Programs

Pine Island Boy and Cub Scouts meet Wednesday evenings at 6 at the Methodist Church, now welcoming girls into the program. Additionally, the Girl Scout troop will meet Friday night at 6.

Thrift Store Hours

The Attic (Thrift Store) is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donations are accepted until 2:30 p.m. on weekdays. Enjoy 50% off clothing and shoes every Tuesday, along with special discount days.

Community Meetings

Pine Island Cares, a coalition of local non-profits, meets quarterly. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 12 at 10 a.m.
