Understanding Planks for Better Fitness

PANAMA CITY, Fla. — Each Wednesday, News 13 presents “Wellness Wednesday,” a dedicated segment focusing on health and fitness. This week, Personal Trainer Traycee Green from Pure Platinum Fitness joined News 13’s Chris Marchand to review the essentials of performing planks correctly.

Green emphasizes the importance of proper form, stating, ‘When we do a plank, we want to think about a bridge.’ Demonstrating both a standard plank and a kneeling plank, Green highlights alternatives for those with wrist issues. ‘Planking on your elbows will give you the same effect if you have problems with your wrists, whether it is on your toes or knees,’ she added.

The core’s strength is paramount; Green reminds viewers that ‘belly button to the chest is a proper plank form. That’s what’s going to give you good core strength.’ Beyond core strengthening, she points out that planks also engage the back, shoulders, and glutes.

For beginners, Green suggests starting small: ‘Start at 10 seconds and add 5-second intervals.’ This approach not only builds endurance but also contributes significantly to overall physical health.
