The police describe the incident as a “targeted attack,” prompting a massive search for the shooter.

According to police reports, Thompson was heading to the New York Hilton Midtown from a nearby hotel when he was approached from behind by the assailant. New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated, ‘Many people passed the suspect, but he appeared to wait for his intended target.’

Investigators have obtained surveillance footage showing the suspect emerging from behind a parked car and firing at Thompson, who staggered forward before collapsing on the sidewalk.
