Three Children Receive Life-Changing Bionic Arms for Christmas

Three children are experiencing unparalleled joy this December as they receive what has been described as “the best Christmas present in the world.” Eight-year-olds Ettie Baker and Zoey Hampton-Pigeon, along with eleven-year-old Finn Jarvis, were each gifted “life-changing” bionic arms through the Big Hero 3 campaign.

This campaign was initiated by Sarah Lockey, a mother inspired by her own daughter’s physical challenges, and it assists families of children with missing limbs in fundraising for bionic arms, according to reports from SWNS.

Alyse Baker, Ettie’s mother, expressed her daughter’s excitement, stating, “Ettie screamed when she found out about her new arm for Christmas this year.” She further acknowledged Ettie’s positivity towards her condition, saying, “Ettie has always shown so much love for her difference and loves celebrating differences.” However, she noted that as Ettie matures, she is becoming more cognizant of her uniqueness and the social challenges it brings.

The Hero Arm is designed for individuals living with below-elbow limb differences.

The new technology is set to allow Ettie to partake in activities such as riding a bike, tying her shoes, and performing handstands. Her mother noted the profound impact this device will have on Ettie’s life, stating, “As parents, we are excited about these things, too, but also all the other ways the Hero Arm will change Ettie’s life.”

Another child, Finn Jarvis, referred to as the “boss of the family,” was born without one hand due to a car accident his mother suffered prior to his birth. His father, Ben Jarvis, remarked, “Finn is a happy-go-lucky boy. He is kind, fearless, and extremely switched on. With this opportunity of a Big Hero Arm, the possibilities for him to excel are endless.”

Funding for these bionic arms was significantly supported by multiple organizations, including the Open Bionics Foundation, which emphasizes accessibility to advanced prosthetics.

The campaign continues to remove the burdens of crowdfunding from families, enabling easier access to vital technology during the holiday season creating unforgettable moments for families.
