Community Health and Wellness Fair Makes Waves in Local Community
The first CELEBRATE Adult Health and Wellness Fair was deemed a success, attracting over 20 area residents for this inaugural event hosted by the Wallace State Community College Department of Nursing Education.
During the four-hour event, attendees had the opportunity to connect with nursing students and healthcare professionals, gaining insights on a wide range of topics from safe driving habits to relaxation techniques. Participants also received essential services such as bone density tests and medication evaluations to identify any potential interactions.
Local residents Wanda Creel and Carol Rigsby happily left the event with bags filled with informative materials and the results of the various health screenings provided during the fair.
‘My doctor never does a bone density test,’ said Creel, expressing gratitude for the chance to undergo tests at the fair.
Creel took the opportunity to update her information for the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office Yellow Dot program, which includes important medical history and emergency contacts. The program aims to ensure that critical information is readily available to first responders in case of an emergency.
‘That’s something I’ve been putting off,’ Rigsby mentioned, satisfied she was able to join the program and receive a cholesterol screening to discuss with her primary care physician.
Nursing student Megan Barclift highlighted the importance of such events, saying, ‘This fair gives us a chance to interact with the public, similar to what we will do in our nursing careers.’ She assisted attendees throughout the fair, helping guide them to various stations and answering questions.
A second fair is already scheduled for Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon at the School of Nursing and Center for Science Conference Center, where admission remains free.
