San Bernardino County Welcomes New Health Officer Dr. Sharon Wang

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors has announced the appointment of Dr. Sharon Wang as the county’s new health officer. Wang officially began her role on November 21, 2024, following her appointment on November 19.

County officials commented on her appointment, stating, ‘Wang brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this vital role, where she will oversee public health initiatives and lead the county’s efforts in promoting health and wellness for all residents.’

Dr. Wang is an accomplished medical professional, having graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and completing her training in dietetics at Yale New Haven Hospital. She holds a Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, where she was a top graduate, and also has a master’s degree in health education.

Her extensive medical qualifications are bolstered by her residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of California, Davis. Dr. Wang is dual board-certified in both internal medicine and infectious diseases.

Expressing her commitment to public health, Wang stated, ‘Public health is a collaborative effort, and I look forward to working with our dedicated team and community partners to address the challenges we face and implement innovative solutions that enhance the well-being of our population.’

Prior to her new role, Wang served as the deputy county health officer, where she gained firsthand experience in the county’s public health challenges.

Board of Supervisors Chairman Dawn Rowe expressed enthusiasm regarding the appointment, saying, ‘We are thrilled to have Wang join our team as health officer. Her extensive background in public health and infectious diseases will be invaluable as we continue to address the health needs of our community.’
