Ruben Amorim: To Compete in the Premier League, We Must Run Like ‘Mad Dogs’
Manchester United’s head coach Ruben Amorim stressed the critical need for his players to exert themselves energetically if they wish to compete effectively in the English Premier League.
He emphasized, ‘Impossible to win the Premier League without a team that doesn’t run. You can do a starting line-up with the best players on the planet, without running they also won’t win.’
Amorim’s comments came on the eve of United’s match against Nottingham Forest.
The Importance of Training
The Portuguese manager elaborated on the necessity for improved training regimens, saying, ‘We have to run like mad dogs, if not we won’t win. The problem is can they cope with that? If they are used to it in training, they will do it in games.’ He urged his players to put in the effort during practice, as he believes improvement comes with dedication. ‘You cannot be faster, but you can run more in training. They are professional athletes,’ he affirmed.
Reflecting on Team Status
Amorim acknowledged that while Manchester United is considered a massive club, the current team does not reflect that status. He stated, ‘That is very clear. We are a massive club, but we are not a massive team.’ Amorim noted that whilst the team has potential, there is significant room for growth, particularly in decisive moments of matches.
Looking Ahead
Progressing in the season, Amorim has posted two wins, one draw, and one defeat since taking the managerial reigns, succeeding interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy. He is intent on fostering a stronger team culture focused on hard work and continuous improvement.
In conclusion, Amorim’s coaching philosophy emphasizes relentless effort and belief in one’s potential as critical components that can steer Manchester United back to its former glory in competitive football.
