River Crossing YMCA has opened enrollment for two complimentary spring Pathway health and wellness programs at its Allentown branch. Targeted at veterans and adults at risk of lifestyle diseases, these initiatives aim to promote wellness within the community.
Enrollment for both programs closes on March 31, with classes commencing on April 7. The programs are accessible to all members of the community; membership to the YMCA is not required to enroll.
The Veterans Wellness Pathway offers a 12-week course featuring in-person personal training sessions and weekly virtual meetings that focus on nutrition and mindfulness. Participants enjoy a complimentary family membership during the program, and upon completion, they receive an additional six-month adult membership. The inaugural Veterans Pathway program, held in the fall, successfully graduated 10 participants from around the Lehigh Valley.
Community Impact
‘The program serves as a kickstart and energizer for veterans looking to re-establish a fitness routine in a supportive environment,’ stated Anthony Guerrero, a recent graduate of the program. ‘The workouts challenge you without overwhelming, as everyone is encouraged to progress at their own pace. The coaches provide alternative workout suggestions, ensuring the facilities support a productive experience. I wish I had connected with the Y sooner.’
Additionally, the Healthy Lifestyles Pathway is a program aimed at preventing lifestyle diseases such as obesity, hypertension, Type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. This initiative encourages participants to adopt healthier behaviors, engage in regular physical activity, and benefit from social support. Participants likewise receive a family membership to the Y for the program’s duration.
Expanding Community Wellness
‘In our commitment to serve the Lehigh Valley, we are thrilled to expand these complimentary Pathway health and wellness programs,’ said Crystal Messer, VP of Operations for River Crossing YMCA. ‘Enhancing the health and wellness of families in our service area is central to the Y’s mission, and we are excited to grow these essential programs in Allentown and beyond.’
Supported by generous donations, the River Crossing YMCA Pathway Wellness programs are facilitated by certified trainers equipped to address the specific needs of each participant. For further details on all River Crossing YMCA Pathway programs, visit ymcarivercrossing.org/pathways.
