Healthcare Coverage on the Rise
The Commonwealth Fund recently released findings that reveal approximately 8 percent of Americans, translating to an estimated 26 million individuals, were without health insurance in 2023. This reflects a significant decrease from the pre-Affordable Care Act era, where nearly 16 percent of the population lacked coverage, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Despite this improvement, the report highlighted troubling trends among the underinsured. Approximately three out of five underinsured adults admitted to forgoing necessary medical care due to financial constraints, raising concerns about access to essential health services.
In conclusion, while strides have been made toward reducing the uninsured rate, there remains a pressing need to address affordability and access in the healthcare system to ensure that all individuals receive the care they require.
