In a heartfelt message to the nation, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has extended her warmest greetings to the Thai people ahead of the Songkran celebrations. She expressed her wishes for happiness, safe travels, and quality family time, emphasizing the importance of the traditional New Year festival.

The Prime Minister particularly highlighted the need for responsible behavior while driving, advising citizens to avoid the roads if intoxicated or fatigued, to ensure safety during the festive period.

Prime Minister’s Itinerary in Chiang Mai

Tomorrow, on April 13, Prime Minister Shinawatra will travel to Chiang Mai to oversee tourist safety and travel arrangements while immersing herself in the local Songkran traditions, locally known as Pee Mai Mueang.

Her first stop will be Khuang Pratu Tha Phae around 4:30 PM, where she will officiate the opening ceremony of the Amazing Songkran Chiangmai x Boryeong Mud Festival 2025. This cultural exchange event with South Korea aims to showcase the unity through shared traditions.

Following this, she will inaugurate the Maha Songkran Chiang Mai Amazing Water Splash Tunnel and kick off the Tuk Tuk Thailand Maha Muan Maha Man parade, joining the festivities alongside visitors and locals alike.

Afterward, the Prime Minister will visit Wat Phra Singh Woramahawihan to partake in the ceremonial bathing of the revered Phra Phuttha Sihing Buddha image, a significant symbol for Chiang Mai.

Her day will conclude with a visit to Maya Square at the Maya Shopping Center, where she is expected to join the SF My Water World Songkran Festival 2025.

Engagement in San Kamphaeng District

On Monday, April 14, Prime Minister Shinawatra will attend the Pee Mai Mueang San Kamphaeng Tradition at Long Him Khao Community in San Kamphaeng District. She will witness a welcoming performance from the local residents, engage in the bathing of Buddha images, and participate in the traditional Rod Nam Dum Hua ceremony, where water is poured over elders as a sign of respect and blessings.

Moreover, she will explore the Following the Footsteps of Handicrafts: San Kamphaeng Memories Festival, highlighting local OTOP products.

As the country gears up for a vibrant Songkran, the Prime Minister’s engagements reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring public safety and fostering cultural appreciation during one of Thailand’s most cherished traditions.
