During the 2025 Annual Walk and Wellness Campaign held in Abuja, Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), called on Nollywood actors and stakeholders to prioritize their health. This initiative comes in response to a troubling spate of health issues among industry practitioners.

“The demands of filmmaking often leave little time for actors to attend to their health. It’s crucial to recognize potential health problems early and seek help,” said Rollas.

Launched three years ago, the project aims to reduce the need for actors to seek financial assistance for health issues online, a practice that has seen a significant reduction recently.

“Healthy living is vital. Regular exercise and proper nutrition are prerequisites for good health,” Rollas stated, as the campaign unfolded simultaneously across various state chapters of the AGN.

The event included medical screenings and discussions on mental health, with Rollas encouraging actors to enroll in the guild’s health insurance programs for immediate access to medical care when needed. “Identifying health issues early can prevent emergencies that may lead to severe consequences,” he cautioned.

Event host, FCT Mayor of AGN, Mercy Aminu, expressed excitement over the turnout, noting, “This walk raises awareness among actors about the importance of maintaining good health, despite their busy schedules.”

Actors including Benedict Johnson and Empress Njamah echoed the importance of the campaign and emphasized personal responsibility for health. They highlighted the importance of regular health checks and a commitment to wellness as fundamental to a sustainable career in the industry.

The campaign successfully combined fitness activities with health awareness, showcasing the guild’s dedication to enhancing the wellbeing of Nollywood practitioners.
