Two years ago, Roundup River Ranch posed a pivotal question: ‘How can we utilize the power of camp to help young people facing behavioral and mental health challenges?’ This inquiry initiated a collaborative journey involving Vail Health Behavioral Health and others in the SeriousFun Children’s Network.
In response, the organization is launching its first Behavioral Health and Wellness camp this summer, scheduled from June 26 to July 1, catering to children aged 7 to 17. Subsequently, a second session from July 6 to 9 will specifically serve Eagle County residents between the ages of 7 and 12, in partnership with Vail Health Behavioral Health.
The camp promises a supportive environment where healing occurs naturally among peers facing similar challenges. Activities include equestrian sports, a challenge course, campfires, and laughter—all at no cost. This initiative aims to promote healing and community engagement.
Sarah Johnson, president and CEO of Roundup River Ranch, emphasizes, ‘Camp offers something uniquely powerful for these children. It’s a safe space away from daily pressures where they can connect with friends, build confidence, and simply have fun.’ The program targets reducing feelings of isolation that often accompany mental health issues.
While this year’s camps are tailored for Eagle County youth, the initiative lays the groundwork for future expansions. To know more about the camps, the community may visit RoundupRiverRanch.org/schedule.
