New Boutique Hotel and Yoga Studio Set to Revitalize Downtown Rockford

ROCKFORD, MI — A new chapter is beginning for downtown Rockford as Kula Yoga has officially signed a lease to open a new studio within the upcoming Hotel Rose. This boutique hotel, currently under construction, aims to combine hospitality with wellness, marking a significant development in the area.

The Kula Yoga studio, located at 24 S. Main St. NE, is expected to welcome its first visitors in fall 2025. Megan Rader, owner of Kula Yoga, expressed enthusiasm about this expansion, stating, ‘We’ve been wanting to plant roots in Rockford for years, and Hotel Rose is the perfect spot for our Rockford yoga home.’ She hopes to create a unique atmosphere that serves both local residents and hotel guests alike.

Hotel Rose, a three-story structure with 54 rooms, broke ground in June 2024 and represents a $14 million investment by the Wheeler Development Group. City officials see this project as a catalyst for growth, expected to enhance the vibrancy of downtown and attract visitors to explore the region.

Jason Wheeler, spokesperson for Wheeler Development Group, noted the importance of Kula Yoga in their tenant strategy: ‘Megan and her team have crafted a unique niche within the health and wellness space that fosters community and serves as a creative space for people to come together.’ This highlights the goal of creating a vibrant community space at Hotel Rose.

The new yoga studio occupies 1,550 square feet and represents part of an evolving plan for downtown Rockford. Wheeler Development Group has been working toward bringing Hotel Rose to fruition since 2018, facing delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and financial challenges. However, with a recent $3.25 million loan from the Michigan Strategic Fund, the project gained momentum, resulting in a ceremonial groundbreaking earlier this year.

The hotel will feature a mix of king and double queen rooms, alongside two dining establishments. While the concepts of the restaurants remain undisclosed for now, Wheeler Development Group is actively finalizing agreements for the remaining ground-floor retail space, promising a variety of offerings tailored to both tourists and residents.
