Navigating Body Image: Supporting Teens in the Digital Age

In a free Zoom event titled Navigating Body Image in the Digital Age: How to Support Your Child with Healthy Habits to Prevent Negative Body Image and Disordered Eating, parents will be educated on the impacts of social media and the importance of healthy habits.

Erika Bent, a licensed marriage and family therapist with over 15 years of experience in the eating disorder field, will lead the presentation. She is the founder of Cypress Wellness Collective and serves as the Schools Program Director at the Community Institute for Psychotherapy.

In recent studies, research has identified eating disorders as a global health crisis, with social media playing a significant role in shaping teenagers’ perceptions of body image. Bent will discuss practical strategies that parents can implement to help their children maintain a positive relationship with their bodies.

“Parents will learn tools to promote healthy body image in a world obsessed with appearance,” said Bent. She aims to equip parents with the tools and knowledge to enhance their teens’ mental well-being.

The event will include discussions on safe social media practices and prevention strategies for disordered eating.

Interested parties are encouraged to RSVP in advance to obtain the Zoom link necessary for attendance. For further inquiries, attendees can reach out to Robin Joy Berenson at (415) 459-5999 ext. #100 or via email at rjberenson@cipmarin.org.
