Yellow Line Monorail Operations Resume
The MRY Yellow Line monorail will resume operations at noon on Sunday after its operator completes necessary safety checks.
Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit confirmed that on Wednesday morning, following a thorough inspection, the Yellow Line operator, Eastern Bangkok Monorail, determined it was safe to proceed. The Yellow Line, formally known as the MRT Nakkhara Phiphat Line, serves passengers in Bangkok and Samut Prakan.
Impact of Recent Earthquake
Services were suspended in response to the earthquake in Myanmar on Friday, which also impacted areas in Bangkok, prompting operators to assess the monorail structures and electrical systems for any damage. Suriya stated that the inspections were critical to ensuring the safety of passengers.
Further Operations Scheduled
While the Yellow Line is set to restart service, the Pink Line, operated by Northern Bangkok Monorail, is expected to resume on Monday. Safety checks are currently being conducted for the Pink Line.
Inspection Details
According to Suriya, the Northern Bangkok Monorail (NBM) has conducted preliminary checks of the monorail structure, discovering no issues. However, the power rail will be inspected at three crucial locations: between the Min Buri station, at Min Buri, and at the Saen Saeb canal crossing.
Construction Safety Measures
Additionally, the reopening of the Din Daeng gate of the Chalerm Mahanakhon Expressway remains on hold due to a toppled construction crane. The crane, which was dislodged by the tremor, poses a risk to motorists still using the expressway. Heavy machinery will be utilized for its safe removal, with operations scheduled at night to minimize traffic disruption.
As passenger safety remains a top priority, authorities urge all citizens to stay informed and report any concerns about local infrastructure.
