Morris Hospital YMCA Grand Opening Marks New Era for Community Fitness

The Morris Hospital YMCA has officially opened its doors, welcoming community members to explore its extensive amenities designed for fitness and community engagement. Executive Director Jamie Heitman led a tour of the new facility on Thursday, highlighting the state-of-the-art spaces available to the public.

The new facility, spanning 60,000 square feet, includes an impressive array of features: an eight-lane lap pool, a comprehensive health and wellness center, spacious gymnasiums, an indoor walking track, and several group exercise studios. Heitman emphasized the facility’s commitment to creating a welcoming environment, stating, ‘In our lobby, we have places for people to hang out, and it’s meant to create a sense of community.’

Facilities Designed for All Ages

The main entrance leads visitors into a vibrant lobby area, equipped with seating spaces for relaxation. Parents will appreciate the Kids Corner, a supervised area designed to keep children entertained while mom and dad focus on their workouts. According to Heitman, ‘The room has a 3D printer and a Cricut machine, and the summer camp program will use the space for some of its older kids.’

Heitman further shared that two community rooms are available for events, with one featuring a teaching kitchen that has hosted popular classes, including cookie decorating. Plans are also in place to create raised gardens outside the kitchen, providing children with hands-on gardening experience.

Fitness Facilities and Programming

The fitness area is well-appointed, featuring diverse workout options including free weights, fitness machines, and a cycling room designed for both classes and individual use. ‘The basketball courts have already been well-used by junior high kids playing well into the evenings,’ stated Heitman.

Membership and Community Engagement

The YMCA is currently offering promotional membership rates of $52 for individuals and $83 for families. Community interest is expected to grow as more programs are introduced, ranging from nutritional seminars to fitness classes tailored for senior citizens.
