Mission and Installation Contracting Command Kicks Off Wellness Wednesday

MICC 250 Walk-it-Out-Wednesday

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas (March 20, 2025) – The Mission and Installation Contracting Command (MICC) hosted its first group wellness event in recent years, named Wellness Wednesday, which commenced on March 19 with an engaging walking contest held both in-person and virtually.

This monthly initiative, organized by the MICC Command Team, aims to implement a series of health and wellness events throughout MICC to foster team building and enhance the overall well-being of its members.

Command Sgt. Maj. JennyAnne Bright co-hosted the event with Clay Cole, the deputy commander of MICC. Bright expressed her excitement, stating, ‘Once a month, we will have our Wellness Wednesday events hosted by the command team to focus on fitness and wellness.’

‘Today we are walking. Future events may include demonstrations on yoga, lifting weights, eating better or checking your blood pressure. We want to turn wellness into a verb by making overall fitness an actively sought goal.’

The event featured the launch of MICC’s 250 Walk-It-Out-Wednesday, a challenge encouraging participants to log 250 cumulative walking or running miles each Wednesday leading up to the Army’s birthday on June 14. Over 50 personnel attended in person, alongside 27 registered teams logging their participation.

Bright highlighted the significance of the endeavor, noting, ‘MICC’s 250 Walk-It-Out-Wednesday helps us demonstrate the command’s focus on fitness while acknowledging the Army’s 250-year legacy of fighting and winning our Nation’s wars.’

‘Each Wednesday is the opportunity for us to earn our miles. The goal is that by the second week of June for the Army’s 250th birthday, we will collectively attain 250 miles.’

As part of their commitment to fitness, MICC encourages personnel to utilize breaks or lunchtime for wellness activities. Simba Gentry, MICC’s Wellness Coordinator, stated, ‘Employees and leaders should follow the MICC Civilian Fitness Program Command Policy Memorandum, CPM 600-13… for fitness.’

In his opening remarks, Cole welcomed attendees, thanking them for supporting MICC’s wellness initiatives. He expressed the intent of the program to create a positive atmosphere around health, saying, ‘The key here is to maintain health and fitness and get that mindset going.’

Following the event, participants actively walked around the Historic Long Barracks, adding to their collective miles as part of this new wellness mission.
