Kyrie Irving, the standout guard for the Dallas Mavericks, is currently embroiled in a legal dispute with Elite Mind Solutions, a health and wellness company. The company claims that Irving owes them nearly $400,000 for services rendered during a family retreat he hosted earlier this year.
The lawsuit, filed on December 2, 2024, in New York, alleges that Irving hired the company along with their high-profile therapist Natasha McCartney for a retreat planned for June 28 to July 2, 2024. Initially, Irving estimated the attendance would be around 50 to 60 guests, however, just days before the event, he communicated that approximately 115 would be attending. Ultimately, the number swelled to around 150.
‘The plaintiffs allege that despite the increase in attendees, all promised therapeutic services were delivered, including crisis management and grief counseling following a tragic incident at the retreat,’ stated the lawsuit.
According to the lawsuit, the company issued invoices totaling $390,710 for their services, which they allege remain unpaid. They are now pursuing a breach of contract claim against Irving, seeking the owed funds, along with interest and legal fees.
Irving, who has made over $300 million throughout his NBA tenure, has not made any public statement about the lawsuit, and his legal team has not responded to inquiries.
Despite these off-court challenges, Irving has continued to shine on the court. He is averaging 24.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 5.6 assists this season, shooting at an impressive 50.4 percent success rate from the field and 46.6 percent from three-point range—the highest of his career.
The Mavericks, who reached the NBA Finals last season, are currently looking to replicate their success in the ongoing season. They have secured victories in eight of their last ten matchups, currently holding the No. 5 seed in the competitive Western Conference.
As the team heads into their next contest against the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night, the spotlight remains on Irving, whose performance alongside fellow star Luka Dončić has bolstered the team’s championship aspirations.
Will this latest legal issue impact Irving’s performance as he aims for another successful season?
