(BPRW) MIAMI, FL — In an effort to highlight the importance of public health, the Jessie Trice Community Health Foundation (JTCHF) organized a health and wellness event for local students. This initiative was part of the National Public Health Week observance from April 7-13. The event took place on April 8 at the JTCHS – Barbara J. Jordan Health & Wellness Center in Miami Gardens, targeting students from Andover Middle School and Dr. Henry W. Mack / West Little River K-8 Center.

The aim of the event was to foster healthy habits among young individuals while providing essential health information. Professionals from the Jessie Trice Community Health System (JTCHS) were present to engage students and offer insights into oral health and general wellness. The educational session was led by Dr. Ashley E. Reid, a dentist, alongside Dr. Arianne Cordon-Duran, a family medicine physician.

During the interactive presentations, students received practical tips on maintaining good dental hygiene, underscoring the importance of routine care and healthy choices in everyday life. Representatives from organizations such as Women Empowering Women in Development and Unmute Yourself, Inc. were also part of this community effort, offering resources and insights to enhance the health education experience.

David Williams, Jr., vice-chair of the Jessie Trice Community Health Foundation’s Board of Directors, expressed the organization’s commitment, stating, ‘The Jessie Trice Community Health Foundation is committed to creating a healthier community. We are grateful for this opportunity to empower the youth in our community by sharing health knowledge that will help them lead healthy lives and create a healthier future.’

Founded in 1985, the Jessie Trice Community Health Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering medical care and health education, specifically aimed at assisting underserved and uninsured populations.
