Fargo, N.D. – Holiday Lights Bring Community Together
Dozens of houses across the Fargo-Moorhead area are dazzling visitors with elaborate holiday light displays. For some homeowners, this annual tradition extends beyond mere decoration—it transforms into a festive light show that engages the community.
A Mesmerizing Display in West Fargo
One of the standout displays can be found at 3034 6th St E in West Fargo. Sean Todd, the homeowner, has decked his property with an impressive array of more than 15,000 lights synced to popular holiday tunes. Each evening, the display illuminates the night sky, creating a magical ambiance as visitors can tune their radios to enjoy the music.
“This year, we started in September. It takes quite a bit of time to pull things together. The most difficult part is ensuring everything is connected and troubleshooting any issues,” Todd shared. His journey into holiday decorating began just four years ago when he was inspired by local light shows.
“I almost refused to put Christmas lights up until I saw other shows and thought, ‘I can do that,’” he recalled with a smile.
Creating Joy Through Lights
Across the border in Moorhead, Angela Cossette shares a different approach to her holiday decorating. Located at 1 King Street, her display—lovingly dubbed ‘Mr. Christmas’—does not require a radio station but delights with its charming snowfall lights and holiday melodies.
“It plays 16 different songs and allows for six plug-ins. You just plug in what you want to move to the music and let it go!” Cossette explained. She and Todd emphasize that the holiday lights bring joy not just to their families, but to the entire neighborhood.
“I know the kids around here love it. They always ask, ‘Turn it on! Turn it on!’ It’s nice to see their excitement, so that’s what it’s all about,” Cossette said.
Visiting the Displays
Those wanting to experience Todd’s dazzling display can visit from Monday to Friday, 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. On weekends, the show continues until 10 p.m. This festive attraction runs through of the first weekend in January. Similarly, visitors can enjoy Cossette’s lights from dusk until about 10 p.m. through the end of the month.
