The annual Health and Wellness Expo took place on October 30 at the Lorain County Community College’s Spitzer Conference Center in Elyria, attracting hundreds of visitors eager to learn about local health resources.

More than 100 vendors participated, representing various organizations and businesses committed to promoting health in the community. Lisa Augustine, Ph.D., a professor at LCCC and the coordinator for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, expressed her enthusiasm for the event saying, ‘It’s a great event with all of our healthcare collaborators.’

Students aspiring to work in health-related fields actively participated by offering services such as blood pressure checks and fitness assessments, gaining valuable hands-on experience.

Augustine noted the diverse range of attendees, stating, ‘That’s the thing about health, is there’s so many dimensions. It’s not just the physical, it’s the emotional, environmental, social, and financial.’

Various local organizations presented engaging activities, including games and small prizes, aimed at enhancing community interaction. Augustine remarked, ‘It’s all free, because that is part of our mission here at the college, is enhancing wellness in the community.’

Molly Anders from West Governors University added, ‘We’re just showing appreciation and thanking the nurses for working the extra hours,’ referring to the special initiative providing care packages to nurses.

As the event drew to a close, Augustine reflected on its impact: ‘We have people from mid to late 80s and 90s all the way down to high school students, and they’re all smiling and having a good time.’

Significance of the Expo

This annual event not only serves as a platform for health promotion but also fosters connections within the community, providing critical resources that individuals may not have otherwise discovered.
