A major health alert has been issued after cases of measles were detected in two recent travelers who returned to Perth from Singapore.
One return traveler arrived at Perth Airport on Singapore Airlines SQ225 on December 8 between 5.30 am and 6.30 am.
The person visited several venues in the metro area while infected with measles between November 30 and December 6, including Perth International Airport and Armadale Health Service Emergency Department.
Another traveler returned on November 30 and was active in public places between December 2 and 6.

WA Health Director Dr. Paul Armstrong urged anyone with symptoms to get tested, stating, ‘I urge anyone who has visited an exposure location during the dates listed to monitor for symptoms, and if they develop, wear a mask and seek medical care.’
Symptoms of measles begin with fever, cough, and sore eyes, followed by a characteristic red rash.
For the public, he emphasized, ‘Call ahead before presenting at a clinic or emergency department’; this is to prevent the risk of spreading the virus to others.
The community is reminded that measles is highly contagious, and vaccination is the best protection against the disease.
Authorities encourage all travelers to ensure they are up to date with their vaccinations before international travel.
