Enhanced programming will be offered at 10 senior housing sites and four county senior centers, featuring monthly and quarterly health events. This combination of traditional wellness activities and innovative approaches, such as exploring “Blue Zone” health theory and practices, will empower seniors to take charge of their health.

According to a Harford County press release, the programming includes:

  • The Blue Zones Program: This year-round initiative draws inspiration from regions known for longevity and well-being. Participants receive passports as they explore principles of health from various countries.
  • Holistic Education: This hands-on experience includes meditation, yoga, and mindfulness, reflecting a growing interest in a holistic approach to wellness.
  • Chronic Disease Prevention: Events will feature collaborations with local health providers for screenings, wellness walks, nutrition advice, and more.
  • Special Wellness Day Events: These will include expos, resource fairs, Health Fest, and a Journey to Wellness retreat.

All programming aims to enhance community connections, addressing the loneliness epidemic which can exacerbate health issues. These initiatives align with state and national efforts to ensure older adults lead healthy and socially connected lives.

‘We’re committed to supporting our growing senior population by investing in programs that serve their needs and enrich their lives,’ said County Executive Bob Cassilly. ‘Our goal is to help keep seniors active, healthy, and engaged members of our community.’
