BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — The Downtown Boise YMCA held a significant groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday morning for its new health and wellness project, valued at $80 million. This endeavor marks a crucial step towards enhancing health and wellness resources within the community.
According to the recent news release, the YMCA is collaborating with St. Luke’s Health System to create dedicated clinical and shared spaces that focus on community health. The partnership is set to provide essential services, including lifestyle medicine, pediatric integrative medicine, and community-based programs, thereby enhancing access to health resources for individuals of all ages and abilities.
In addition to health services, the new facility will house a CapEd Credit Union branch, which will offer financial counseling and literacy programs to empower community members. Furthering its commitment to families, the YMCA plans to construct the 123-seat Kissler Family Early Education Center, which will double the availability of early childcare in the downtown area.
This ambitious project has seen robust support from various public and private partners, including a notable $5 million donation from CapEd Credit Union. Of the total $80 million needed, $40 million will come from philanthropic contributions, and the YMCA is actively raising $5 million in community donations.
Additionally, Congressman Mike Simpson has secured $4 million in federal funding to assist with the project. This collaborative effort highlights the community’s dedication to improving health and wellness accessibility for all residents in Boise.
