Free Series of Classes Focuses on Factors That Contribute to Healthy Families

Franciscan Health Michigan City has announced the return of its popular free program, FIT-Together, a six-week series designed to enhance family health and wellness. The program is open for registration and aims to promote a holistic approach to well-being for families with children between the ages of 8 and 15.

The initiative emphasizes the importance of addressing the health of each family member, including children, siblings, parents, and parental figures. Veronica Martin from Mindful Minds will lead sessions that focus on healthy choices in activities, relationships, and emotional health. Participants will also learn about the seven Cs of family resilience: control, competence, coping, confidence, connection, character, and contribution.

In addition to these educational sessions, the program includes physical activities and practical tips for maintaining an active lifestyle, guided by Trainer Ron Gaston. There will also be sessions on nutrition, meal preparation, and understanding nutritional facts, led by Chef Nakia. To assist families in making healthy meals at home, weekly meal kits will be provided.

The program will be held at The Temple Total Fitness Center, located at 1914 E. U.S. Highway 20 in Michigan City, from 4:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Central time on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting June 17 and ending July 24. Participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing and gym shoes for each session.

This wellness series is a collaborative effort, supported by partnerships between Franciscan Health Michigan City, Kia Can Cook, Mindful Minds, and The Temple Total Fitness Center. The event is entirely free, but interested families must register in advance. For registration or more information, contact Nila Williams, the Community Health Improvement Coordinator at Franciscan Health Michigan City, via email at Nila.Williams@franciscanalliance.org or by phone at (219) 283-9649.

The organization encourages community members to take advantage of this opportunity to promote healthier family dynamics and better overall well-being.
