Discover the Great Blue Herons

The majestic Great Blue Heron often stands motionless, wading in shallow waters as it stalks its prey. During spring, these beautiful birds gather in large communal roosts in the tops of trees, known as heronries. These colonies serve as crucial sites for mating, breeding, and raising young herons.

Join a Guided Bird Watching Hike

Join experienced birder Seth Chapman on a short hike to a local heronry, where you will observe numerous Great Blue Herons tending to their roosts. This experience promises not only a deeper understanding of the Great Blue Heron but also a chance to reflect on nature and connect with your surroundings.

Details of the Hike

This event will take place along a segment of the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail. Participants will gather in community to learn all about the Great Blue Heron, including how to identify them, their unique habits, and characteristics that make these birds special.
