The theme “In Motion” is set to inspire discussions at the TEDxTinHauWomen event, taking place on December 6 at the Xiqu Centre in Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District. This year, ten speakers will address ways to enhance inclusivity in both the city and the broader world.
Among these speakers are Jessica Chan and Sophia Hotung. Chan, head of investor solutions at JLL, will share her experiences living with achondroplasia, a condition leading to dwarfism, aiming to inspire open conversations about disabilities. Chan, who is 122cm tall, hopes to motivate individuals to engage with those who have disabilities rather than avoiding them due to fear of embarrassment.
Sophia Hotung, a writer and illustrator, will join Chan on stage to discuss her journey with chronic illnesses. Together, they will propose strategies for fostering support for individuals with visible and invisible disabilities, emphasizing the need for compassion and understanding in society.
2. The Significance of Inclusivity
The TEDxTinHauWomen event serves as a platform to elevate voices and narratives often overlooked. As societal dynamics evolve, discussions around inclusivity become increasingly relevant. The stories shared by the speakers are not just personal anecdotes; they reflect broader societal issues regarding acceptance and support for diverse communities.
