The Bridgton Public Library is taking strides to foster collaboration among local nonprofits by initiating a new “nonprofit learning community.” This community will serve as a crucial resource hub for nonprofits, providing them with necessary tools and guidance to enhance their operations.
Amy Stone, the director of the Bridgton Public Library, emphasized the importance of this initiative. She stated, “We aim to create an environment where local nonprofits can connect, share resources, and enhance their capabilities,” highlighting how the library is uniquely positioned to support these organizations. The library’s resources, including technology assistance and access to grant research tools, will be pivotal in aiding nonprofits.
The idea stems from previous collaborations, including the Bridgton Area Nonprofit Collaboration, which met regularly in 2023. This group consisted of various local nonprofits that aimed to support one another but struggled to maintain regular meetings. Stone believes that with the right support, these organizations can thrive, particularly in providing vital cultural resources and health services.
The library will facilitate connections between nonprofits and broader resources, such as the Maine Association of Nonprofits. Participants can also expect access to technology and workshops geared towards effective nonprofit management and grant writing.
Stone expressed flexibility regarding the community’s structure, stating, “If there’s not a group, that’s okay. We’re here to support the community as needed.” This reflects the library’s commitment not only to foster collaboration but also to adapt based on the community’s evolving needs.
