
Eluru District Sees Expansion in Healthcare Services
Eluru: Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav addressed a query raised in the Lok Sabha by Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Kumar about the funding allocated for the construction and upgrading of hospitals in Andhra Pradesh (AP), particularly in Eluru district, over the last five years.
According to the Minister, six Primary Health Centres (PHCs) were sanctioned for AP under the National Health Mission (NHM) scheme, with five now completed. In Eluru district, four of these health centres have been completed.
Furthermore, four maternal and child health wings were sanctioned for AP, with three already finished. A total of 2,727 Health and Wellness Centres were approved for the state, of which 107 have been completed in Eluru district.
Under the 15th Finance Commission, 334 block public health units have been sanctioned for AP, with 15 designated for Eluru district, of which one has been completed. Additionally, nine community health centres have been approved for AP, and 26 Integrated Public Health Labs have been sanctioned under the Prime Minister’s Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission. The Minister noted that 13 labs have been completed, and one has been sanctioned for Eluru district.
Moreover, 24 critical care blocks have been approved for AP, with one designated for Eluru district. Over the past five years, to strengthen infrastructure under the NHM, an impressive Rs 1,271.8 crore has been allocated for AP from the financial year 2021-22 to 2025-26.
The government will also allow the establishment of new medical colleges in collaboration with existing district referral hospitals under a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS). This initiative aims to set up 157 medical colleges across three phases, including medical colleges in Piduguralla, Paderu, and Machilipatnam in AP. The establishment of these medical colleges has been approved, with some already in operation in Paderu and Machilipatnam.
