Celebrating Community Wellness in Brooklyn

Crown Heights Kicks Off Inaugural FEAST Fall Food & Health Festival

On December 7, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Jackie Robinson Elementary School will be the hub for the inaugural FEAST Fall Food & Health Festival, organized by FEAST Communities, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering communities through health education and arts. Located at 46 McKeever Place in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, the festival will foster holistic well-being through hands-on activities and community engagement.

A Commitment to Health and Sustainability

Anthony Gay, the festival’s organizer, stated, ‘FEAST is committed to developing sustainable, healthy, and advancing communities of color.’ He emphasized the need for such initiatives in neighborhoods where limited access to nutritional services is prevalent, saying, ‘In neighborhoods like ours, we are surrounded by fast food and processed food, living in health food deserts with limited access to the services and education necessary for wellness.’

Activities and Highlights

Attendees can look forward to a range of activities aimed at promoting health and wellness:

  • Mental health crochet corners led by FEAST Communities
  • Cooking demonstrations and farm stands by Seeds in the Middle
  • A craft market organized by Black Farmers United NYS
  • Gardening workshops and activities by Ebbets Field Community Garden

In addition, there will be interactive workshops, children’s scavenger hunts, and fitness games to engage participants of all ages.

Gay concludes, ‘The FEAST Fall Food & Health Festival is a step toward creating longer-lasting lives and stronger families and communities. By supporting community gardens and organizations like Black Farmers United of NYS, we are not only addressing these challenges but also uplifting those who help make health and wellness accessible in central Brooklyn.’
