Supportive Community at the YMCA in Midland
MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – Gayla McMurrian, director of health and wellness at the YMCA in Midland, is eager to encourage everyone in the Basin to reach their health goals for 2025. She emphasizes the importance of exercising for the right reasons.
‘Don’t exercise because you hate your body; exercise because you love your body,’ McMurrian stated, highlighting the need to appreciate our physical selves.
According to her, it doesn’t matter what your current fitness level is—what counts is commitment. ‘You can come in at any level, whether you are a beginner or someone who knows exactly how to train a body, and there’s something for you here,’ she explained.
The YMCA offers various exercise options, and members are not limited to just one. ‘We have a circuit system upstairs that you can go through if you’d like to fit in a quick workout on your lunch hour,’ McMurrian mentioned. ‘Additionally, our lunchtime classes are designed to cater to busy schedules.’
McMurrian advocates for group fitness classes, stating that the instructors provide a supportive and encouraging environment.
‘Many people don’t realize the community aspect of the YMCA,’ she noted. ‘You can definitely feel a different level of joyfulness as you walk into this place.’
