Community Comes Together for Health and Wellness at Memorial Park Recreation Center

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the Memorial Park Recreation Center is set to host a health and wellness fair this Saturday, April 12th. Following a successful community cleanup led by Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful earlier this week, the fair promises a full day of engaging activities aimed at promoting health and wellness in the area.
The event will kick off at 10 a.m. and run until 1 p.m., inviting residents of all ages to participate in various activities, including health screenings, mental health workshops, and fitness classes like Zumba and gentle yoga. Additionally, attendees can enjoy complimentary smoothie samples from Southern Vegan Soul Cafe while learning about healthy food choices.
‘Our mission statement is to build healthy communities through people, parks, and programs,’ said Quentez Howard, Coordinator for the Memorial Park Recreation Center. ‘So this is a healthy program that we’re bringing to help enhance the quality of life for our Macon community.’
Howard emphasized the importance of a holistic approach to health, stating, ‘Because, of course, health is wealth, and we know that it not only starts on the inside, but it’s also up here in our mind as well. With a healthy mindset and healthy inside, we can enhance the quality of life for all of ourselves.’
In his closing remarks, Howard encouraged community members to participate and support the event. ‘With these programs and these types of events that we’re putting on together for the community, we want everyone to please come out because we do this for the community. It’s not just for our own self-gratification. We’re doing it for the betterment of our community.’
The fair will take place at the Memorial Park Recreation Center, located at 2465 Second Street. Residents are encouraged to attend and take advantage of this opportunity to engage with health resources and learn about living a healthier lifestyle.
