Empowering Local Teens through Agriculture
City Farm SLO is excited to announce the opening of applications for its Youth Empowerment Program. This initiative focuses on providing farm-based workshops aimed at helping local teens build essential skills for a healthy and successful future.
The program features a total of eight workshops, covering a broad spectrum of topics such as health and wellness, leadership and team development, and career and college readiness. Participants have the opportunity to earn up to $200 by engaging in the program.
Kalea Conrad, the facilitator for the Youth Empowerment Program, highlights the importance of reconnecting students with agriculture. ‘A lot of students, in the last several decades, have lost that understanding of and connection to land,’ Conrad explained. She emphasized that the primary goal is to demonstrate to students the potential for pursuing a career in agriculture, showing them ‘it’s an opportunity.’
City Farm SLO is offering three cohorts this June and July, with applications open until April 30. Interested individuals can find more details and apply through the City Farm SLO website.
