Chicago Police Department Emphasizes Officer Wellness

CHICAGO — Chicago police officials have announced a renewed focus on officer wellness as one of the agency’s main goals for 2025, as reported by the Chicago Tribune.

In a meeting with the Civilian Office of Police Accountability on December 12, Commissioner Larry Snelling emphasized, ‘We have to make sure that our officers are well — mentally and physically — so that we are putting the best possible product out into the community.’ He added, ‘If we are not treating our officers well, we cannot expect our officers to treat others well.’

The department is set to enhance its initiatives through the Lexipol’s Cordico wellness app, which provides personnel in stressful occupations and their families with on-demand access to confidential wellness resources created by leading experts.

Aside from wellness, Snelling highlighted five key goals for the department, which include:

  • Ensuring constitutional policing
  • Completing a long-delayed workforce allocation study
  • Fostering community relationships
  • Aiding crime victims
  • Clarifying department policy on associations with extremist or biased organizations

As the Chicago Police Department aims for a comprehensive approach to officer wellness, it seeks to enhance community services and uphold a robust, effective law enforcement structure.
