Bloomington’s $155 Million Investment in Community Improvement Projects

An overview of Bloomington's community investment projects.

Bloomington’s New Sales Tax Initiative

In November 2023, Bloomington voters approved a new half-percent sales tax to provide $155 million for the enhancement and protection of the Nine Mile Creek corridor and Moir and Central parks. This funding also includes the construction of a new community health and wellness center and renovations to the Bloomington Ice Garden.

Bloomington Ice Garden Renovations

After hosting an engaging “ice-breaking” event in September, work on the renovations at the Bloomington Ice Garden began. The renovations include new arena flooring, dasher boards, and an upgraded ice system. Importantly, operations at the Ice Garden are expected to continue without interruptions until mid-March 2025, when construction will commence and continue through fall 2025.

Renewal of Nine Mile Creek Corridor and Moir/Central Parks

Public engagement sessions held throughout the summer provided essential feedback for the Nine Mile Creek project team, who kicked off the concept plan review on October 21. Residents can learn more about the project at bloomingtonforward.org/9mile.

Community Health and Wellness Center

HGA Architects, in conjunction with City staff, is drafting designs for the community health and wellness center. Early in 2025, an event will allow residents to review and comment on the proposed designs. More information can be found at bloomingtonforward.org/chwc.
