
Fireworks Regulation in Bangkok
In light of safety concerns, Bangkok’s governor Chadchart Sittipunt announced that while fireworks and floating lanterns are generally banned for the New Year countdown, controlled pyrotechnic displays will take place at 14 designated locations across the city.
Obtaining Permission
Those interested in setting off their own fireworks or releasing lanterns must seek prior approval from local officials. Governor Chadchart emphasized that in order to safeguard the community and prevent fires, residents must provide evidence of safety measures along with their requests for permits.
Consequences for Violations
The governor urged compliance with these regulations, stating that violations could lead to severe penalties, including up to three years in prison and fines reaching 60,000 baht.

Residents and tourists can gather at the following locations to witness Bangkok’s official New Year fireworks:
- Khlong San district: ICONSIAM
- Bang Kho Laem district: Asiatique: The Riverfront, The Salil Riverside Hotel, Chatrium Riverside Hotel, Montien Riverside Hotel
- Bang Phlat district: ChangChui Creative Park
- Pathum Wan district: CentralWorld, One Bangkok
- Prawet district: Seacon Square
