Ardsley High School celebrated the grand opening of its newly renovated Wellness Center on January 3, 2025, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The event was attended by Superintendent Dr. Matthew Block, Assistant Principal Brendan Granstrand, Social Worker Monique Johnson, and Assistant Superintendent Jen Bradshaw, who all delivered remarks. Following the speeches, attendees were invited to tour the center, which was open to students, parents, and staff.
The Wellness Center was developed to enhance student well-being and academic performance. It serves as a supportive space for stress management, health education, and social connection, aligning with the school’s mission to cultivate a positive and inclusive environment.
“This Wellness Center reflects our district’s commitment to addressing the needs of the whole student,” stated Assistant Superintendent Jen Bradshaw. “By creating a space where students can recharge, learn coping skills, and feel supported, we are taking an important step toward ensuring their success both in and out of the classroom.”
Under the leadership of Principal Danielle Trippodo and Monique Johnson, the center was designed to meet the diverse needs of students. Johnson mentioned that the center offers various resources, including relaxation activities, health education, and workshops on life skills, all framed within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
“The center is designed to provide tiered support to meet every student’s needs, helping them thrive both socially and academically,” explained Johnson.
Superintendent Block emphasized the excitement generated by the opening of the center, noting that, “The enthusiasm from students and staff underscores the importance of this initiative. The Wellness Center is already fulfilling its role as a place of comfort, growth, and meaningful connection.”
The center’s furnishings were funded by the Ardsley Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA), while the calming room décor was sponsored by the Ardsley Education Foundation. Contributions were also made by former parent Marina Lederer, who provided expertise in interior design. The Ardsley Community Enrichment PTO contributed items such as giveaways and healthy snacks, with the food service department offering samples of smoothies.
Additonally, Ardsley alumna Samantha Podob volunteered her services as a registered dietitian/nutritionist, while senior Dominick Dapice provided soothing music on his guitar during the event.
Support from the district included critical equipment, and the facilities team, led by Billy Cerutti, ensured the project was completed on time.
The Wellness Center will be open during key lunch periods and will host workshops on time management, meditation, healthy eating, and more. Parents will also have opportunities to attend sessions focusing on adolescent development and wellness.
“Together, we’ve created a space where students can thrive,” concluded Johnson.
