Apple Announces Plans for AI-Powered Doctor
In a recent report, Apple has revealed plans to develop an AI-powered doctor alongside a redesigned Health app and a new health coaching service, codenamed Project Mulberry. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, ‘development is now full steam ahead,’ with the potential launch coinciding with the release of iOS 19.4, expected in spring or summer 2026.
Revamped Health App Features
The new Health app, informally referred to as Health+, is designed to collect user data from devices like the Apple Watch. It will provide personalized healthcare recommendations based on this data, suggesting dietary changes or lifestyle adjustments to address health concerns, such as high blood pressure.
Expert Involvement in Development
Apple is collaborating with in-house physicians and is reportedly seeking additional medical professionals to create valuable instructional content for the app. There are also plans to recruit a well-known physician to enhance the app’s credibility.
Competing in Health Tracking
The app is expected to include food tracking, a feature that has been lacking in Apple’s health offerings thus far. This addition positions Apple to compete with established platforms like MyFitnessPal and Noom. It may also function as a personal fitness trainer, using the iPhone camera to analyze workouts and offer improvement suggestions, potentially integrating with the existing Fitness+ platform.
Thoughts from Industry Leaders
The initiative to create an AI doctor is in line with predictions from technology leaders, including Microsoft’s Bill Gates, regarding AI’s role in healthcare. Apple CEO Tim Cook hinted at the company’s future healthcare projects back in 2019, emphasizing its commitment to health and wellness as potentially “the greatest contribution to mankind.”
Leadership of Project Mulberry
The development of this exciting project is spearheaded by Dr. Sumbul Desai, who leads Apple’s health team, with significant involvement from Jeff Williams, Apple’s COO, according to Gurman.
