Mental Health Initiatives and Community Wellness Events in 2025

Dr. Joshua Jones, the medical director for Providence-St Joseph Health System and a prominent psychiatrist in Clallam County, will participate in a free radio forum on mental health scheduled at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14. The forum will be broadcast on KSQM Radio 91.5 FM. Jones, who became the medical director of Providence St Joseph Health System in late 2023, has an extensive background including roles at Olympic Medical Center and Peninsula Behavioral Health.

The upcoming Wellness Radio Forum aims to raise awareness about mental health issues and promote community engagement. Dr. Jones is known for his expertise in general and forensic psychiatry and is committed to improving mental health understanding among local residents.

In related community wellness initiatives, the Dungeness Valley Health & Wellness Clinic in Sequim continues to support uninsured community members through free basic urgent care and chronic health services. The clinic’s efforts are sustained by more than 70 volunteers, including healthcare professionals and local supporters, underscoring the importance of accessible mental and physical health services.

Meanwhile, in Rochester, the annual Juneteenth celebration, themed “Maintaining Infinite Hope,” is set for June 14. The event will feature a parade, arts and crafts, live performances, health and wellness activities, and free admission to The Strong Museum of Play. This festival is part of a broader effort to reflect on and educate about the history and ongoing struggles of Black communities in America.

Simeon Banister, President of the Rochester Area Community Foundation, highlighted the significance of the event, stating, ‘This year, we celebrate and extend MLK Day to Juneteenth with the theme ‘Maintaining infinite hope,’ reflecting resilience amid challenges.’ The celebration attracted approximately 6,000 attendees last year.

Participants can join the festivities starting with a parade at 10 a.m. on State Street, proceeding through Main Street, East Avenue, and Chestnut Street, with the event culminating at MLK Park. The festival runs from noon until 8 p.m., featuring entertainment and over 50 vendors.

Both local initiatives exemplify a community’s dedication to fostering health, hope, and unity. As these events and programs continue to support mental and physical wellbeing, community members are encouraged to get involved and prioritize their health and wellness.
