VA employee Lindsay Kasow, a Marine Corps Veteran, continues her commitment to service beyond her military career. Currently a VA Rating Veteran Service Representative, Kasow’s daily work involves reviewing records to ensure veterans receive deserved benefits. Her dedication to supporting veterans stems from her personal experience and her ongoing involvement with non-profit organization Team Red, White, and Blue (RWB).
Kasow and 11 fellow veterans are preparing to participate in the inaugural Old Glory Ultra Relay, a first-of-its-kind cross-country event where participants will carry a single U.S. flag on foot for 3,000 miles without stopping. The relay, starting in San Diego on May 2 and ending at the Global War on Terrorism Memorial in Washington, D.C., aims to set a world record and fundraise for veteran wellness programs.
The relay represents a meaningful blend of her personal and professional missions—serving others and promoting resilience. Kasow emphasizes that her role at VA involves helping veterans transition into civilian life, ensuring they receive appropriate care and benefits. “I feel blessed to continue serving by supporting veterans and advocating for their needs,” she states.
Her involvement with Team RWB has fostered a strong sense of community and camaraderie, which she misses since leaving active duty. Through shared experiences, she has found renewed purpose and inspiration, reinforcing her belief that service extends beyond military uniform.
The relay also symbolizes the importance of physical and mental wellness. Kasow stresses that maintaining health is crucial for veterans, who often face physical and emotional hardships. The journey, she explains, encourages veterans to push past perceived limits and rediscover their potential.
Kasow views her participation as a way to inspire others—showing that service, growth, and purpose are ongoing pursuits. “You never really know what you’re capable of until you try,” she says.
Her story is a testament to resilience, community, and the enduring human spirit. The Old Glory Ultra Relay offers a powerful message: no matter where life takes you after service, you can always find ways to serve, thrive, and lead by example.
