Thai Prime Minister Calls for International Cooperation at ESCAP Session

At the 81st session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) on Monday, Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra called for strengthened international cooperation at all levels to address today’s pressing global challenges.

During his address to ministers from across Asia and the Pacific gathered in Bangkok, Paetongtarn highlighted the serious cross-border threats facing countries worldwide, including natural disasters, geopolitical tensions, climate change, and transnational crime.

The session, which runs from April 21-25, is themed “Regional cooperation for resilient and sustainable urban development in Asia and the Pacific.” This topic aims to foster discussions on current and emerging policy issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a set of 17 interconnected objectives aimed at tackling global challenges.

Paetongtarn remarked, “These issues affect peace, stability, and security, as well as international and regional development. They mean something to each and every one of us.”

The importance of collaboration among nations was emphasized throughout the session, with discussions focusing on practical strategies to enhance resilience in urban development across the region.
