Victorville Wellness Center Gains Funding to Support Local Homelessness Initiatives

The city of Victorville’s Wellness Center will receive vital funding from the San Bernardino County Community Development and Housing Department as part of the Housing and Homeless Incentive Program.

During the recent San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors meeting held on April 8, it was revealed that Victorville and Fontana would share a total of $989,820 to tackle homelessness and enhance community support systems.

Victorville’s Wellness Center will specifically receive $489,820 for its 170-bed facility, which opened in December 2023 near the Mojave River in Old Town Victorville.

Victorville Councilwoman Debra Jones said, ‘The Victorville City Council has prioritized cleaning up our streets and resolving our homelessness crisis in a safe, compassionate, and responsible manner.’ She added, ‘I’m thankful to Col. (Paul) Cook and San Bernardino County for recognizing the incredible progress we’ve made with the Wellness Center and securing this important funding.’

The interim facility provides essential support services, including an on-site medical clinic for Medi-Cal and Medicare-eligible residents, along with wraparound services such as behavioral health, job readiness, and financial literacy, aimed at stabilizing and helping the unhoused.

The expansive 25,920-square-foot campus was funded with a $28 million Homekey Grant from the California Department of Housing and Community Development and is designed to accommodate men, women, families, and even pets.

Fontana’s The Path Shelter

Besides Victorville, Fontana’s ‘The Path’ interim shelter will also benefit, receiving $500,000 for its 120-bed facility converted from a former motel, providing intensive case management, healthcare connections, and pathways to permanent housing.

County officials emphasized that these funding initiatives align with Molina Healthcare’s investment priorities and the mission to support local governments in addressing homelessness.
