Boothbay Region High School Hosts Wellness Day 2025
On April 9, 2025, the Boothbay Region High School (BRHS) Student Health Advisory Board organized its annual Wellness Day, a day filled with diverse health-related activities aimed at encouraging students to engage in their well-being.
According to BRHS officials, the event included several scheduled blocks where students could choose their activities. Options ranged from self-defense classes led by local police to Tai Chi sessions conducted by instructors from LincolnHealth Education. Students could also participate in nutrition workshops, Healthy Relationship Jeopardy, and arts and crafts, including crochet and rock painting.
Throughout the day, the excitement was palpable as students shared their schedules and experiences. The gym buzzed with life, featuring a fat tire bicycle competition and a smoothie bike, where students could enjoy nutritious smoothies while being active.
Notably, the event included animal experiences that captured student attention. Newagen Alpaca Farm brought friendly alpacas for students to interact with, while Deputy Sam Alexander introduced Zeke, a black lab in training, who demonstrated his skills to an enthusiastic audience.
In the afternoon, students participated in various sports activities including basketball, tennis, and yoga, all designed to promote physical fitness and mental wellness. Participants had the chance to join a drum circle and take part in healthy cooking workshops, creating dishes like egg rolls with spicy peanut sauce.
Students were encouraged to contribute to the school’s snack pantry, and those who participated in a phone-free day for mental health were eligible for raffle prizes. Mindy Labrecque from the school Health Center emphasized the importance of Wellness Day, stating that it serves as a vital partnership between the health center and the student health advisory board.
The day concluded with the announcement of the fat tire bicycle competition winners, Thomas Hennessey and faculty member Christopher Liberti, who triumphed against reigning champion Kristen Hanley.
Such events promote not only physical health but also foster a sense of community among students, reinforcing the significance of well-being in their everyday lives.
