Get Ready for Wellness Fairs in Valley City and Gladstone

VALLEY CITY (VCSU) – Valley City State University (VCSU) is gearing up for its annual Wellness Fair on Wednesday, April 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., to be held at the VCSU Student Center. This event is free and open to the public, making it a fantastic opportunity for community members to gather useful wellness information and resources.
The Wellness Fair promises a variety of engaging activities, with contributions from 27 different campus, local, and state organizations. Sponsored by Essentia Health, Sanford Health, and CHI Mercy Health, it seeks to enhance awareness around health and wellness initiatives.
This year, the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services will provide free and confidential HIV testing to attendees, along with a coupon for a complimentary beverage at the Viking Grounds for those who participate. Additionally, various health screenings and fitness tests will be available, along with opportunities to win enticing door prizes, ranging from workout gear to gift cards.
Meanwhile, in Gladstone, Illinois, the Henderson County Health Department will host a similar event this Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Health and Wellness Fair will feature free medical screenings, therapy dogs, and breakfast for attendees.
Organizers of the Gladstone event, including community health workers Karen Cole and Sharon Graham, are excited about the theme, ‘When Life Gives You Lemons’, which aligns with their educational breast cancer awareness initiative known as Know Your Lemons.
Keynote speaker Julie Malone-Bell, a breast cancer survivor, will share her insights on advocacy and navigating treatment. Attendees at the Gladstone fair can look forward to several complimentary offerings, including oral cancer screenings, diabetes screenings, breakfast, and even pet therapy sessions featuring golden retrievers.
“We encourage everyone to make the short trip to Gladstone,” Graham states, emphasizing the inclusive nature of the event and its life-saving potential.
Both events reflect a commitment to enhancing public health awareness and fostering community connections. Whether you’re in Valley City or Gladstone, there’s a wealth of information and activities waiting to be explored!
