Needham Jones Bootcamp

Introduction

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) – Hattiesburg’s African-American Military History Museum is hosting a unique back-to-school camp that is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

When Does It Begin?

The annual Needham Jones Bootcamp begins Monday.

Who Can Attend?

The bootcamp was created for male students, ages 12 years old up to 15 years old.

Schedule

The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, as well as July 15 and July 16.

Activities

Campers will attend lectures, take field trips and participate in several team-building, career exploration, and health and wellness activities.

Engaging and Interactive

“We wanted to be engaging and interactive, because you know, at that age, it’s kind of hard to maintain the attention of that age group, so we have diverse programming available,” said Vanessa Molden, Sixth Street Museum District Operations/Education supervisor.

“We go out into the community to different community outings, and then, also, we have speakers coming in and then we have activities, hands-on activities, that they participate in.”

Registration

The camp is free, but registration for this year already has closed.

Honoring a Veteran

The camp is named in honor of World War Two veteran Needham Jones.
