Introduction

JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole Land Trust is hosting a new summer-long program at the Greenspace on the Block with free yoga classes and mental health resilience classes.

Yoga Classes

Every Monday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. until Aug. 26, Erwin Velasquez will teach English/Spanish yoga classes. Every Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. until Aug. 28, Jes Neuhaus will teach Hatha Yoga classes, a branch of yoga focusing on breathing techniques and channeling energy sources. Both instructors bring a wealth of knowledge and experience and also teach classes locally. Some yoga mats, donated by Lululemon, will be available to use on a first come, first served basis.

Mental Health Resilience Classes

Twice a month on Fridays from 1 to 2 p.m., Charlotte Alexander from the Mental Wellness Collaborative will lead mental health resilience classes for participants of all ages. The upcoming dates are July 19 and 26, and August 16 and 30. Those wishing to participate can join a workshop at any time.

The workshop-style classes range from coloring mandalas and learning about the benefits of sensory engagement and meditative practice to stringing and building gratitude beads. These classes strive to make mental health topics approachable and accessible.

Community Impact

“It’s a great opportunity to slow down in the bustle of summer and enjoy Greenspace right in the heart of town,” Community Conservation Director Zach Andres said in a statement.

Background

Greenspace on the Block was created through the “Save the Block” campaign that raised $7 million in 2019 to keep the land on Broadway between Persephone and XYZ from being sold to a hotel developer. The park opened in 2022 and JHLT holds the easement for the land. On the southeast corner of the block, the new History Jackson Hole museum opens June 29.
