As stress levels surge across the UK, health experts are emphasizing the benefits of ‘Micro-Wellness’ routines that take as little as 60 seconds. A recent survey reveals that 46% of respondents feel more stressed now than they did six months ago.
This survey conducted by OnePoll highlights that 70% of individuals experience symptoms of burnout, such as fatigue, sadness, irritability, and physical exhaustion, with 42% claiming they lack the time for a wellness routine.
‘Micro-Wellness Rituals’ consist of brief, focused activities that can easily fit into busy schedules. Examples include three minutes of mindfulness meditation, a minute of breathing exercises, or recognizing small victories for two minutes.
Jo Hemmings, a behavioral psychologist, states, ‘Burnout stems from diverse areas including health, work, and relationships. Recognizing early signs of stress is crucial to prevent long-term health issues. I encourage individuals to make time for self-care, starting with micro-wellness rituals like mindful breathing for a few minutes each day and gradually expanding from there.’ Hemmings suggests identifying personal stress triggers, perhaps by reducing screen time, and reconnecting with life through more mindful practices.
Vick Hope, a Perfectil ambassador, has collaborated with the wellness brand to develop a guide on ‘Micro-Wellness Rituals.’ She remarks, ‘Just like our bodies, our minds need downtime and care to thrive. I’m passionate about sharing my wellness rituals to inspire others to manage stress and maintain a balanced life. Prioritizing oneself amidst daily demands is essential; we must embrace self-care activities, whether that be yoga, meditation, or simply enjoying nature.’
Some recommended Micro-Wellness Rituals include:
- Breathe Deep, Live Bright (1 minute): Focus on your breath; this simple act can significantly reduce anxiety. Try the 4-7-8 breathing technique.
- Small Steps, Big Magic (2 minutes): Take a moment to appreciate your achievements, no matter how small.
- Dance the Tension Away (4 minutes): Let loose with your favorite tunes to lift your spirits.
- Unlock Your Inner Voice (5 minutes): Use journaling to process your thoughts and foster gratitude.
- Share the Inner Beauty (5 minutes): Make time for positive social interaction to enhance mood and connection.
