JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas (March 18, 2025)—
In honor of the United States Army’s 250th birthday, the Mission and Installation Contracting Command (MICC) has launched an initiative encouraging Soldiers and civilians to walk a cumulative distance of 250 miles by June 14. This initiative, named Walk-it-out-Wednesdays, is designed to promote health and wellness within the organization and will kick off with the first Wellness Wednesday event on March 19 at the MICC headquarters.
The MICC, part of a legacy that has supported Army operations for 250 years, will host various health and wellness events every month, fostering team-building and enhancing the readiness and resilience of its personnel.
Command Sgt. Maj. JennyAnne Bright stated that, ‘There’s no better way to celebrate 250 years of the most powerful, ready and resilient Army in the world than to get out, get moving and get in step with your battle buddies.’
Bright emphasized that the weekly walking challenge aims not only to boost physical activity but also to improve interpersonal connections and camaraderie within the ranks. The goal of achieving 250 cumulative miles reflects a commitment to physical fitness and overall health.
Participants who log their individual walking distances will have the chance to earn the MICC Golden Sneaker honorary trophy for both individual and team achievements. To qualify, individuals must complete their walks on the designated Wednesdays leading up to June 14.
‘This is just the beginning; we plan to focus on fitness and celebrate the Army’s 250th birthday throughout the year as a point of pride of the service we are all a part of,’ Bright added, referencing the Army’s yearly theme: ‘This We’ll Defend.’
