On February 10, Washington State College of Ohio (WSCO) hosted a significant event focused on mental health and wellness in collaboration with P.S. I Love You Day. This Community Mental Health Day was designed to open up a dialogue about mental health in the community, inviting participants from all walks of life to engage with resources and support systems available.
The event aimed to eliminate stigma and increase awareness surrounding mental health, aligning with the mission of P.S. I Love You Day, a registered non-profit organization committed to promoting hope and fostering a supportive community. Annalise Fisher, Ed.S., LPCC-S, the Suicide Prevention and Health Promotion Manager at the Ohio Program for Campus Safety and Mental Health stated, ‘The PS I Love You event at WSCO was well-organized and the theme was incredibly touching. It was so encouraging to see such a large number of students attend, making it evident that initiatives to destigmatize mental health among college students are paying off. WSCO is dedicated to supporting the mental health and wellness needs of its campus community.’
The event attracted around 200 attendees, showcasing participation from 20 different mental health providers and community organizations. Among these were the Washington County Behavioral Health Board, Integrated Services for Behavioral Health, and the Suicide Awareness Alliance of Washington County.
Kathy Temple-Miller, the Dean of Student Success at WSCO, expressed her hopes for the event, stating, ‘P.S. I Love You created a warm and inclusive space where students and community members felt truly welcomed. With free and reduced-cost resources, fresh flowers at the door, and a room filled with smiles and support, the event was a beautiful reminder that no one is alone.’ With such initiatives, WSCO aims to further emphasize the importance of mental health and wellness in an engaging and supportive environment.
